Up to date finally (well kinda) Wed, Apr 19th 2006 3:06pm
Hey all,
Finally decided to add something to this blog, give a little update to on which i have been doing for the past couple of weeks.

First couple of days in Ulm

When I first came to Ulm, there was a little difficulty getting into my apartment. It seems that most of the school staff have been on strike for the past couple of weeks, making it hard for anybody at the Institute of Orthaepedics and Biomechanics to get ahold of my landlord\caretaker. Well, i left about three or four messages with the guy before i arrived, giving him information as to what time i would be able to get to my apartment etc. Needless to say, he didnt show up. Nobody did, so i was freaking stuck with out a place to live.
I had the phone number of an American Post doctorate working at the institute, and gave her a ring. She met me at the Haptbahnholf with a german guy and helped me locate the only youth hostel in Ulm, way off in the middle of nowhere. After about three bus changes, and a 20 minute walk we finally made to the Youth Hostel. The german guy helped me get things straightened out with one of the guys working there and i was off to bed. The next day, i met Ludwig, a german student from up north coming here to study dentistry at the Universität Ulm. I chatted with him a few minutes, and he offered to take me out that night to check out some of the nightlife of Ulm. Another guy was staying in our room from New York. It was funny, the germans couldnt believe that they met an American in Ulm, let alone two americans. We all went out that night, hit up four of the popular bars in ulm, the puffer, Olga, the wilde mann, and Murphy's Law. All great bars, and a good time. The rest of the time at the Youth Hostel was rather uneventful.

After my first day of work (cutting up rat legs...fun, let me tell ya) i finally made it to my apartment. Little bit in the ghetto and about an hour bus ride from my work. im currently trying to find another place, hopefully close to the center of town, and in the same state as i work, so i have yet to registered living here yet. I got three months, so hopefully i will find something different, and with internet access. anyway, i will be adding pictures and things in the next week or two. so far i have made it as far away from Ulm as Paris, and it was a ton of fun. I'll write about that later. Anyway, happy reading.
